Our partner Polymicro Technologies, Inc.’s core competency is the drawing and coating of silica and quartz in the manufacture of optical fibers.
The optical fibers are produced from preforms commonly available on the market – whether the preforms are provided by customers or manufactured by Polymicro.
The range of standard fibers is large – from “low OH” versions, which are characterized by particularly low hydrogen content and are thus especially well suited for wavelengths in the IR range, to “high OH” versions, which are characterized by high hydrogen content for applications in the UV range. Fibers with good endurance properties are also available at wavelengths up to 200 nm for the far UV range.
One particular highlight is the so-called broad spectrum optical fiber, which is designed for the wavelength range from 275-2100 nm.
All the fibers introduced here are “large-core fibers.” They are manufactured with core diameters from 100 µm to 1000 µm. Customer-specific fibers up to 2000 µm are also available. They are equipped with a plastic buffer made of Tefzel or polyamides for mechanical protection.
Typical application fields for standard optical fibers include telecommunications, medical technology, sensor technology, aeronautics, and the processing industry.
All available standard fibers can be found in the new fiber overview. Other types of fibers are available upon request.
