VIS Add-on for Telescopes

Adaptive Optics platform for increased telescope performance

This compact adaptive optics add-on uses fast wavefront sensing, a 40-actuator deformable mirror, and easy calibration to enable high-precision imaging in telescopes.

Closed-Loop Adaptive Optics for High-Resolution Imaging

CIAO VIS significantly enhances telescope performance by reducing atmospheric turbulence and correcting static optical aberrations. It enables the delivery of clear, high-resolution images for astronomy, solar observation, spectrometry, and space situational awareness. The integrated calibration source and straightforward installation simplify setup, while the fast adaptive optics control loop ensures stable and precise correction even under challenging observing conditions. This combination of ease of use, robustness, and professional-grade correction performance makes CIAO VIS an ideal upgrade for both scientific and advanced amateur applications.

High-Speed Wavefront Correction Across a Broad Spectral Range

Equipped with a 13 × 13 microlens HASO wavefront sensor and a 40-actuator piezoelectric deformable mirror, CIAO VIS provides high-speed, high-accuracy wavefront correction across a spectral range of 400–1100 nm. It features an internal 520 nm motorized calibration source and achieves a closed-loop delay below 1.7 ms at loop frequencies of up to 950 Hz, with a rejection bandwidth of at least 45 Hz. Weighing just 3 kg, the add-on integrates easily into telescope systems with apertures from 200 mm to 1 m and f-ratios between f/9 and f/12.
