Subsea Applications for Photonic Components
LASER COMPONENTS manufacture a range of products well suited for use underwater. Our FLEXPOINT® lasers can be used for a variety of subsea applications, including
- marine research
- offshore energy inspections
- underwater mapping
They can be used to measure objects, estimate distances, and create 3D models.
Diode lasers are particularly well suited for use underwater because of their insensitivity to vibration, long life, compact size, and range of wavelength options, from infrared to ultraviolet.

Line Laser Enables Sub-Millimeter Resolution
Unmanned underwater robots equipped with lasers are revolutionizing subsea inspections by making them more efficient and safer. The FLEXPOINT® MVnano line laser provides high-resolution capabilities to measure and capture images of fractures, rust, barnacle growth, and other early indicators of potential failures.

tHE ROLE OF fIBER oPTICS AND lASER mODULES
Fiber optic-cables are used for data and video transmission to get pictures from depths of 5000m. But it is not only a picture, that is important for the research of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research - to measure the size of the surveyed objects, three powerful FLEXPOINT® dot laser modules mounted in an equilateral triangle around the single image camera were used.
